Key dates
Main UK tax deadlines to remember
Missing a tax deadline can mean penalties and interest. These are the dates most UK individuals and limited companies need to track. Always check GOV.UK for your exact dates, as they depend on your accounting period.
Self Assessment
Online tax returns are due by 31 January after the tax year ends (5 April). Register for Self Assessment by 5 October if you are new. Payments on account fall due on 31 January and 31 July.
Corporation Tax
Corporation Tax is normally payable 9 months and 1 day after your accounting period ends. The company tax return (CT600) is due 12 months after the period ends.
VAT returns
VAT returns and payments are usually due 1 month and 7 days after the end of each VAT accounting period, normally quarterly.
PAYE and payroll
Electronic PAYE payments to HMRC are due by the 22nd of the month. Real Time Information reports must be sent on or before each payday.
Annual accounts
Private limited companies must file annual accounts at Companies House within 9 months of the company year end.
Confirmation statement
Every UK company must file a confirmation statement at least once every 12 months. We can file it for you from £100 + VAT.
Who should use tax reminders?
Tax reminders are useful for anyone with HMRC or Companies House deadlines: sole traders and self-employed people filing Self Assessment, landlords with rental income, company directors and shareholders, limited companies and partnerships, and small business owners who handle their own accounts. If you run a UK limited company, you also have Companies House filings such as the annual accounts and the confirmation statement, which are easy to forget.
Why tax deadline reminders matter
Late filing and late payment can lead to automatic penalties and interest from HMRC, and persistent late filing at Companies House can lead to action against the company and its directors. A free reminder service gives you advance notice so you can gather records and file on time. If you have already missed a deadline, see our pages on a late confirmation statement and an overdue confirmation statement.
